Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State said on Tuesday that the state’s internally generated revenue rose to N9.5 billion in February.
Amaechi told newsmen in Port Harcourt that the figure was the highest recorded since 2007.
He said that government’s new tax regime, done in partnership with Skye Bank, had continuously yielded positive results.
The governor said in the past, the state generated between N5 billion and 6 billion monthly.
Amaechi, who was represented by David Iyofor, his Chief Press Secretary, lauded Skye Bank for collaborating with the state.
Amaechi said that the state could do more if all tax payers were dragged into the tax net.
He said that with a robust tax, the state could provide more infrastructure.
