How Richard Mofe-Damijo got his groove back

Top Nollywood actor, Richard Mofe Damijo has gone from fading away from the social scene due to his political appointment to being at the forefront of it.

In 2009, RMD was appointed as the Commissioner for Culture & Tourism in Delta state by the then Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.

This new role got him so busy that he was hardly seen on the entertainment scene.

He had stopped acting in major films since 2007. He even got fat!

Fans began to clamour for him.

It seemed Nollywood’s favorite hunk heard their call when he suddenly re-appeared on the social scene in 2012.

He then took advantage of the social media platform, Twitter during which he got in a spat of words with popular blogger, Linda Ikeji over the mention of the value of the new home he just purchased in Delta.

He made it clear – he still knew how to command attention.

RMD made a major comeback into the movie industry with a cameo in AY’s 2014 comedy blockbuster, 30 days in Atlanta.

This got him back in the full public glare as rumours started to spread in May 2014, that he was sick after a picture of him looking quite lean went viral.

He however dismissed the rumours in an interview with Weekend Groove at Amaka Igwe’s memorial.

He was quoted as saying, ‘What else do you need? You saw me on stage, did I look sick? People are probably so disappointed to see me looking so much better they want the news to be true. Unfortunately for them, I am in the best shape of my life.

“Have you not taken photos of me? It amazes me how people cling to bad news. I am a public servant in Delta State, I go to work every day. I am not sick. I changed my lifestyle and lost weight and I am looking better than I have ever looked in my adult life. For the records, I am not on Facebook and my colleagues that they used their names as those who posted the stories have all denied it.”

He also signed an endorsement deal with telecommunication giants, Globacom also in 2014.

Then, Change came and he left government.

And he returned to us in full force.

His brand value taking a leap again after he joined the image sharing mobile app, Instagram on Saturday, July 4 2015 with this lovely photo of him below, laughing.
