Road transport chairman killed over N100 association fee

Ebenezer Adedeji, a branch chairman of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria, RTEAN, at a park in Ondo State, has been reported killed by an unidentified commercial motorcycle driver in an argument over the daily N100 ticket collected by the association.

Adedeji was said to have accosted the commercial motorcycle operator to demand the N100 daily payment but the suspect reportedly left his motorcycle at the scene only to return with a cutlass.

The motorcycle operatorhad returned to the location to discover that the chairman had left for a meeting where he had gone to attack him with the cutlass.

He was said to have laid ambush for the chairman in order to commit the act.

The yet to be identified motorcycle operator immediately fled the scene of the crime after inflicting fatal injuries on Adedeji but was eventually caught and handed over to the police.

The Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in charge of the station, David Ehighale, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, confirmed the incident. He said the suspect has been transferred to the homicide section of the Ondo State Police Command in Akure for further investigation.

Adedeji’s remains have been deposited at the Ondo State Specialist Hospital.
