Able-bodied man blames his parents for his robbery career

24-year-old Lekan Jimoh got arrested following a tip off by the police while he and his gang were preparing for another robbery operation in Orile, Lagos.

Jimoh blamed his parents for his plight saying they practically forced him into the act when they refused to fend for him, while he took his vocational training in carpentry.

Due to his parent’s neglect, he claims he was sent off by his master for not coming with the necessary tools for the training as per request.

Jimoh and his partner in crime, Taiye Oyeleso, who supplied the bullets used for the robbery, were nabbed on Wednesday, October 21, through the tracking of his phone.

Confessing to the crime, Jimoh said he has been involved in five successful robberies with a profit of N30, 000 from each.

According to his confessional: “I started learning carpentry after finishing from secondary school. But when I was through, there was no money to buy the tools. My parents did not assist me in any way. Their irresponsibility forced me to go into robbery. My boss also sent me away from work, warning me to keep off until I got the money to commence work.

“It was one of my friends who introduced me to the gang. We were going for operations in the Ajah area. I went for only five operations. I was given about N30,000 after each operation along with victims’ phones.

“I promise not to rob again if I regain my freedom. I am married with a child, and he is just a year and two months old. The police have not been feeding me; I am extremely hungry inside the cell. I have learnt my lesson.”

Oyeleso, 42, claimed that he only gave Jimoh the ammunition as former security guards and not for robbery: “I knew Jimoh when we were both doing security work in the Igando area. I do not sell guns; I do not rob. I was arrested in the Igando area. He had come to me and said he needed five bullets for a security job.

“Since we were together, I did not doubt him. I did not know he was going to rob with the bullets. So, I gave him some of my boss’ bullets. That was my offence.”

The police is still investigating the case, as well as two other members of the gang wh
