Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike, and his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi, were engaged in a war of words on Sunday, at the Mile 1 Police station, in Port Harcourt.
The Minister of transportation and Wike were reported to have confronted each other over the arrest of Ekwi Adebisa, an official of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
Adebisa, the collation officer of ward 10, Port Harcourt local government (PHALGA), in the ongoing Rivers rerun election, allegedly went missing with the result sheet on Saturday.
The collation officer was on Sunday morning, reported to have been found, and taken to the police station.
Apparently, both Wike and Amaechi got wind of Adebisa’s resurfacing and headed to the station.
Amaechi was the first to show up- alongside Dakuku Peterside, Director-General of the Nigerian Maritime Safety Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA; Davis Ikanya, Rivers APC Chairman and Ibim Semenitari, Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), and other officials of the All Progressives Congress.
Subsequently, Wike arrived the police station with some members of the Peoples Democratic Party, and both sides engaged in a shouting match, TheCable reports.
The police were said to have waded into the the war of words and invited them for a private meeting, which journalists were prevented from attending.
