Between continuity and change: Team GMB VS Team GEJ on Rubbin’ Minds

by Ranti Joseph

On Sunday’s edition of Rubbin’ Minds, team GEJ and team GMB tackled relevant issues as regards the economy, education, women empowerment.

Jimi Agbaje, Lagos PDP governorship candidate, stated that the issue of traffic and transportation is one of the issues that needs to be addressed in Lagos state.

He disclosed that the PDP has plans to address the issues stating that in the short term, implementation of proper BRT transport will be done to make it easier to people.

Agbaje also said water transportation will be fully implemented thereby getting bigger boats that are ferries to transport people and reduce their fears of travelling through water.

“We need to have state security to tackle security in the state. Communities will be better policed,” he said

Also Abdullahi Mai Basira, PDP youth leader talked about education, stating that since 2011, participation in the education sector has increased in the country, adding that there are plans to establish 12 new universities. He also said the present government has ensured the continuity of farming in agriculture.

Josephine Washuma Attah, PDP special adviser of Job creation, said there is consideration for women, stating that this is the administration with the highest women in policy making. Pilot women are being trained under their administration; a lot of women are being empowered through their SMEs programme like the Youwin over 60 per cent of it is targeted at women.

She also said there are agricultural funds targeted at women with different programmes being implemented in different PDP states for women.

Attah stated that electricity is an issue, it is something that was handed down to the present administration, it is a problem that has been there for the past 35 years, it is not something that can be done in 6 years or 10 years but they are moving forwards and reforms are being put in place.

Rinsola Abiola, PRO of the APC youth forum while discussing said the APC has plans to challenge unemployment in the country stating that Lagos state has set a standard as regards women empowerment and the party is taking holistic approach to women empowerment and equality.

She also talked about the APC having plans in securing the life and properties of the people.

APC also said there is plan to partner with international bodies to tackle security especially countries at which Nigeria are sharing borders with. “a bird cannot fly with one wing, in Kano a lot of women have been empowered. In Lagos, 100 out of 1000 of women are given opportunity.”

She also said the present administration has promised more than six times to end insurgency but nothing has been achieved as regards that.

Also speaking on the establishment of new universities, she said the existing ones, have not being properly funded yet they talk about establishing new ones.

“Blocks have not being laid for the new universities yet they are campaigning with it. Polytechnic were on strike for 11 months, Universities also went on strike even technical schools are not properly funded yet new ones want to be established, to what end? We need to take action to change the situation in the country. We need to go out and vote out those deceiving us,” she said.

Washhima Attah added that continuity is what is needed. “Starting to build from the scratch will take time but continuing to build ton what is on ground. We already have built the foundation, all that is needed is continuity, build on the already built foundation,” she said.
