A mysterious fire outbreak that occurred yesterday in Agege area of Lagos State, caused a major stir as it razed a building, killing 2 children in the process.

It was learnt that the children were burnt to death at their residence at No. 12, Adebari street, in Agege, where they lived with their parents.

The fire was said to have  started when flames from a lit candle spread through the house.

According to Leadership report:

Nosirat, 7, one of the deceased children, was a primary one pupil of Starland Private School, Agege; while Basit, 5, was a nursery one pupil of the same school.

Lodging a complaint at the Elere Divisional Headquarters, Agege, the mother of the children, identified as ‘Mama Nosirat’, said a candle light caused the inferno that killed her children.

“I am a trader selling kerosene and bread outside. After I had closed shop for the day, I kept a 25-litre can of kerosene inside while I lit a candle and placed it on the freezer, since there was no electricity supply.

“My children and their father were sleeping and I then went to buy mosquito coil, but before I could return, the house was on fire. I saw my husband outside without the children and by then there was no way for me to go inside to rescue them.”

An eye witness, Ganiyu Ayoola, said: “I managed to run out with my wife and two children, with only my pant on. These clothes I am wearing were given to me by Supol Fatoki, a neighbour”.
