People wade through a flood with their belongings after their houses were submerged in the Amassoma community in Bayelsa state

A young man in Ogun has lost his life after he was swept away while trying to save a drowning cow.

26- year-old is said to have held on to the cow’s horns in a bid to save its life when it was being swept away by flood waters following a heavy downpour.

The incident occurred in the Ijebu-Ode area of the state.

The Tribune reports:

One Mr Hammed, who claimed to be the deceased’s master, told Saturday Tribune that Odumosu, a resident of Adefisan area of the town, missed his steps as he attempted to hold the cow’s horns as it was being swept away by a flood caused by heavy rains.

Hammed blamed the flooding on the re-direction of floods from Ijebu-Ode township to the area.

The chairman of Isope Community Landlords Association, Alhaji Mushafau Osibanjo, said the re-channelisation of the drainage to the area, which had become a subject of controversy, was responsible for the incident.
