How many Senators would be in tow as Saraki, Ekweremadu’s forgery trial starts today?

The forgery trial of Senate President, Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, begins on Monday at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Jabi, Abuja.

Punch Newspapers reports that it’s highly unlikely that many Senators would accompany the duo to court in solidarity – as was done for some of the Senate President’s trial dates at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

It is believed that as is the usual practice by the Senate President, most of the Senators haven’t been informed of a scheduled attendance of the trial.

Notwithstanding, some loyalists of the Senate leaders are expected to follow them to the Abuja high court.

Meanwhile, the senator representing Enugu North, Godfrey Utazi, can’t understand why the case is again going to trial, when an FCT Federal High Court, had quashed it last year when some Senators were the plaintiffs.

“The members of the Senate Unity Forum, who dragged Senator Ekweremadu and others to court, lost the case and they never appealed against it, how come the Presidency suddenly woke up one year after, and reopened the case.”

Furthermore, Saraki’s lawyer, Ahmed Raji (SAN) has assured that his client will be in court for his arraignment in spite of his other trial at the CCT.

The Presidency recently denied being responsible for the trial of Saraki and Ekweremadu despite the fact that some presidential aides and All Progressives Congress Senators are part of the witnesses lined up to testify against the duo.
