Saraki’s CCT trial pushed forward

Bukola Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal | YNaija.com

The Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB) and lawyers of Senate President Bukola Saraki have agreed to adjourn his trial to March 18.

Both parties agreed to begin arguement on whether the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) has the authority to try Saraki on the charges of false declaration of assets while he served as Kwara state governor, on the said date.

Before adjourning hearing to the said date, Danladi Umar, the president of the CCT, instructed the defence council to ensure that all motions and processes are served to the prosecution counsel so as to avoid further delay.

Senate President Bukola Saraki, who sat in the dock throughout the legal procedure, is facing criminal trial for false declaration of his assets while he held sway as Kwara state governor from 2003 to 2011.

Saraki, and many of his supporters, have severally stated that his trial was politically motivated to persecute him because of the manner through which he became President of the senate.
