Satire and personal experience in Bobo Omotayo’s upcoming book

PR practitioner and columnist Bobo Omotayo, will be launching his first book, ‘London Life, Lagos Living’, soon. Better known under the moniker ‘The Renaissance Man’, Bobo Omotayo has compiled a collection of short stories including some previously published in his column on BellaNaija titled “The Friday Track”. The book also includes new material laced with the same wit and honesty as his once controversial postings.

According to Omotayo’s PR person, the short stories are predominately based on the author’s life experiences in Lagos.

“After early secondary and higher education in Scotland and England respectively, Bobo moved back to Nigeria to start his working career. It’s his various encounters through work, love, and social circles since his relocation which makeup as the backdrop for these Lagos-life based observations turned ‘tales’. In its three years, the weekly postings evolved into a unique entity with its own characteristic style,” an official statement reads.

“‘Kilon Sparkles!’ is the opening salutation synonymous with The Friday Track. It is vibrant, exciting, and warm, communicating the jolly spirit of London Life, Lagos Living. The stories are inherently Nigerian, capturing certain nuances of everyday “Naija” life, and presenting it, through Bobo’s eyes for anyone, anywhere.

The author’s style can be described as easy reading, colloquial, comical and satirical. He argues that perhaps this is the style which needs to be adopted to get more people to read. “I disagree with the myth that young Nigerians don’t read, all you need to do is look at the high levels of activities taking place on the blogs. This reveals to us that it isn’t that we are not reading but you must present the information to us in a manner that is appealing to us” said Omotayo.

The book which comprises of thirty seven short stories would be read at promotional events across the country throughout the month of November starting with X.O. For a chance to meet with the author, more book signings would take place on the 18th of November at the Wine Stores and The Lifehouse on the 25th of November.
