From the start of his career, Timaya has been a well known advocator for peace in the Niger Delta. In recognition of that fact, the award winning singer and songwriter, was recently appointed as a peace ambassador by the Interreligious and International Federation for World Peace (IIFWP), a division of the United Nations. According to its co-founder, Dr Hak Ja Haan Moon, ‘Timaya was especially chosen for this honour because he’s one of those individuals whose lives exemplify the ideal of living for the sake of others and who dedicate themselves to practices which promote the founding ideals of the IIFWP’. The peace ambassadorship comes with a special number plate for the singer’s car.
