After sufficiently whetting our appetites with a teaser that was released a few weeks ago, new fashion magazine Mania, was launched yesterday, 20th February, 2011 at the Federal Palace Hotel, Lagos. The who’s who of Nigeria’s fashion and entertainment industries were in attendance to see what the highly acclaimed editorial team had in store. Expectedly, all came stylishly dressed – after all, this was the launch of a much anticipated fashion magazine! The event kicked off with an interactive introductory session with the audience. Afterwards, renowned Nigerian photographer and major creative force behind the new magazine, Kelechi Amadi-Obi mounted the stage to introduce ‘Mania, the product’, which he defined as “a magazine that will portray fashion in a fearless manner”. Next came stylist Dimeji Alara – also a founder of Mania – with a follow up to Mr Amadi-Obi’s exposé.
The launch was full of interesting performances – Bez Idakula gave a superlative presentation, while a visiting artiste-cum-lecturer of broadcasting from Ghana gave a poetic rendition. The ever soulful Yinka Davies crooned Whitney Houston’s Saving All My Love For You with a lovely twist, and guests were also shown a short documentary of the magazine. “It looks fabulous already,” said Yomi, a stylist who was in attendance. As the event came to a close, the Mania team climbed onto the stage to take a bow. Dimeji Alara delivered a short closing remark, and M.I ended the event with a befitting performance.
