Senate begins probe of N330bn Amnesty funds

The Senate on Thursday began investigation into how monies set aside for the Presidential Amnesty programme have been spent over the years.

The red chamber said it is undertaking the investigation due to the increase in youth restiveness in the Niger Delta region despite the huge sums budgeted.

It is the belief of the Senate that the funds have been mismanaged since 2009.

Senate president, Bukola Saraki while inaugurating the investigative hearing said seven years down the line “we should ask ourselves whether the objectives of the programme have been achieved.”
