SGF, David Lawal may be in trouble over comments about Tinubu, Akande

It is believed that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, may have drawn the ire of the Presidency over his recent comments.

Lawal, had during a thanksgiving service in Abuja last weekend, attributed his emergence as SGF to leaders of the All Progressives Congress, Bola Tinubu and Bisi Akande.

The SGF stated that if it had been left to Northern leaders to make the decision, he wouldn’t have emerged as the candidate for the role, owing to his Christianity.

Lawal praised Tinubu and Akande, saying they made it possible for him to be chosen as SGF.

He had said: “I am Secretary to the Government today, because those people-Tinubu and Akande- that I mentioned were the very first to put the idea in the mind of the President.

“They were the ones that made it possible because if it has been left to northerners, it is doubtful if they will take a Christian man to make Secretary to the Government of the Federation”.
Vanguard reports that Lawal’s comments did not go down well with the presidency on two counts; saying Tinubu and Akande were responsible for his nomination and also stating that Northern leaders wouldn’t have chosen him.
The report states that two days after Lawal had made the utterance, Muslim leaders and northern elite, evidently upset, visited the Presidential Villa, to complain to President Buhari.
Feeling slighted by Lawal’s statement, the northern leaders purportedly demanded that Buhari disciplines the SGF for speaking in an unguarded manner.
