Wife of the Vice President, Amina Sambo, on Saturday appealed to Islamic organizations to support the Federal Government by preaching peace, to tackle insecurity in the country.

Mrs. Sambo made appeal at the Annual Al-Habibiyyah Women Forum, an NGO, in Abuja.

Represented by the wife of the Niger governor, Jummai Babangida Aliyu, Mrs. Sambo said Islamic organizations were key to achieving peace in the country.

“I see this effort by Al-Habibiyyah women as an attempt to compliment government’s efforts to tackle insecurity by returning to the basics,” she said.

“We should not relent in ensuring peace in our individual homes, communities, our country and the world at large.”

She said the theme of the programme was very apt in view of the emerging trends in national and international circles.

Mrs. Sambo said proper parenting and a united family unit were crucial to curbing social vices in the country.

“It is incumbent upon all of us to take parenting seriously and work towards making it a duty.

“This I am sure, will address the moral degeneration whose consequences are the resultant insecurity, violence and other social vices being perpetrated by our youths,” she said.

Earlier, the wife of the Kogi governor, Halima Wada, urged women on proper training and upbringing of their children and wards.

She decried the insecurity situation in the country and stressed the need for Nigerians to rectify the situation.

The Chief Imam of Al-Habibiyyah Islamic Society, Imam Adeyemi Fuad, said the forum was meant to sensitize women and the public to the stand of Islam on contemporary challenges facing mothers.

He emphasized the need for good parenting as this would reflect positively on the society.

“A child that is well mannered and cultured cannot be easily lured to any societal ill,” he said.

The forum was attended by women groups, Islamic scholars and government functionaries across the country.
