Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are officially engaged and according to initial reports, the rapper chose her favourite jewellery designer, Lorraine Schwartz to create the 15 carat diamond sparkler despite the fact she also created the one Kris Humphries decided proposed with to Kim in 2011.

Clearly Kimmy’s got a thing for Schwartz’s jewels and despite perhaps the bad memories of her car crash wedding to the NBA star, which lasted just 72 days, the Yeezus star opted for the New York based designer for his diamond ring.

The 36 year-old popped the question in San Fransisco on Monday night at the AT&T baseball park, Kim’s 33rd birthday, with the Keeping Up With The Kardashians beauty accepting his proposal infront of her friends and family. A photo of the sparkler, which Schwartz is said to be behind, was soon posted by Kim’s hair stylist Clyde Hairgood on Instagram.

Sending a message to Kimmie herself Lorraine posted on Instagram earlier in the day, writing: “Happy happy birthday to my beautiful friend @kimkardashian ️ #greatfriend #amazingmom #mayallyourdreamsandwishescometrue”

But who is Lorraine Schwartz? Everything you need to know about the designer Kim loves so much, she’s had two of her engagement rings.

1. She’s one sassy business woman

Lorraine is the third generation of the Schwartz family to run the jewellery business. Taking over from her mother in 1989, when the 55 year-old died from cancer, she renamed the company Lorraine Schwartz Diamonds & Fine Jewelry.

2. She’s uber-exclusive

Schwartz is pretty exclusive, so don’t expect her work to turn up anywhere. Schwartz’s jewels are exclusively available through Bergdorf Goodman in New York though she also meets for private commissions at her 5th Avenue showroom.

3. Lorraine is the go-to designer for celebs

With such exclusive access to the designer, it’s not a surprise her clients are strictly A-list with the likes of Sophia Vegera and Heidi Klum counted as fans. None come bigger than Beyonce though. Not only has she name-checked the designer in a song, she also helped her launch jewellery line, 2BHappy Collection and it seems the whole family are fans.

“Lorraine is the most generous, wonderful, talented jewelry designers I know,” designer Tina Knowles, Beyoncé’s mother, told RSVIP at the launch in 2010. “She can come up with a concept and put it together . . . like that.”

4. She’s designed two engagement rings for Kim

Yep, it seems Kim’s so keen on Lorraine, Kanye wouldn’t have anyone else to design the ring despite ex-husband Kris Humphries also going to the New York based jeweller in 2011 when he popped the question. According to E!News, the rapper opted for a 15-carat diamond ring, which is 5 less than the 20 carat sparkler that Humphries presented to the star.

Schwartz is said to be annoyed that Humphries recently auctioned off the rock, which was a 16.2-carat emerald cut stone, surrounded by 1.8-carats of side diamonds, making a cool $500,000 profit on what he paid for it. The designer is said to be annoyed because she gave the NBA stara huge discount on the diamond sparkler because of her close relationship with Kimmy, Radar Online have claimed.

When approached earlier this year about whether she was designing a ring for Kim’s new beau Kanye, Lorraine had feigned ignorance in May insisting she hadn’t been approached by the rapper.

While Kim’s first Lorraine Schwartz engagement ring might have had to be returned, we reckon there’s a good chance her second one won’t be as her couples have quite a good history of staying together. Jay Z gave wife Beyonce a ring from the designer said to be worth a staggering $5 million and they’ve been happily married for five years now. Another happy couple is Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds. The Gossip Girl babe accepted a $2 million pink diamond from the hunky actor in September 2012.
