Shiite killings: United States of America reacts

The United States of America has joined the list of countries to react to the violent clash between the Nigerian Army and the Islamic Movement of Nigeria resulting in the mass killing of the members of the movement.

The US, in a statement released by the embassy in Abuja, stated that it is concerned by the news of the violent clash that ensued between the two parties.

The US reflected that while the true nature of the clash remained shady and inconclusive, the news of the death of many Nigerians resulting from the clash was received with dismay.

The US however, urged the clashing parties to shy away from anything that would push the already murky situation into deeper waters.

The statement stated, “it is essential that all sides refrain from actions that further destabilize the situation. The United States calls on the government of Nigeria to quickly, credibly, and transparently investigate these events in Zaria and hold to account any individuals found to have committed crimes.”
