Woman sets lover ablaze in Ondo

Ajowele Busayo, a 23-year-old teacher has been remanded in prison custody for allegedly setting her lover ablaze.

Ajowele was said to have set the victim, Anthony David on fire on July 14 at about 9am at Liberty Street, Basiri Area of Akure, Ondo State.

The Prosecutor, ASP Ayodele Atandeyi told the Chief Magistrates’ Court that the suspect was a teacher in a private primary school where the victim’s children were pupils.

The 44-year-old victim was reportedly rushed to the hospital by neighbours but later died as a result of his injuries.

The prosecutor said the offence was contrary to section 316 and punishable under section 319(1) of the Criminal Code, Cap 37 Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.

The magistrate, Charity Adeyanju, ordered that the accused be remanded at the Olokuta prison pending the receipt of legal advice from the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).

The case has been adjourned till November 1 for mention.
