Shoprite drags two employees to court for theft

Two cashiers with the Shoprite Supermarket at the Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping mall were today arraigned on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

Inspector Akeem Raji who was the prosecutor in the case told the court that the two accused persons reconfigured the company computer system and stole N404, 999 worth of money belonging to Shoprite.

“The accused persons have been receiving money for goods purchased by people, removed part of it and recorded some in the computer,” Raji said.

The two accused, Olawale Odunbakin, 20, and Ademola Adeniji, 37, pleaded not guilty to the offense.

After hearing their plea, Magistrate A. Tobi of the Surulere Magistrates’ Court granted the accused persons bail but did not fix any monetary value to.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), she also ordered the two accused to produce two sureties each with an evidence of tax payment to the government of Lagos State for a three-year duration as part of the bail conditions.

The case has been adjourned till September 28 for further hearing.
