Six trucks set ablaze by JTF in Kogi for suspected oil bunkering

by Akan Ido

Six trucks suspected to be carrying illegally acquired petroleum products were yesterday set on fire by security agents at Ajogu and Lokoja, both in Kogi State.

The contents were suspected to have been siphoned illegally at Adogo in Ajaokuta, and Osara in Okehi LGA.

Three of the trucks were set on fire at Ajogu village while the other three were set ablaze in Lokoja, the state capital.

The exercise was carried out under the supervision of Commander of the Joint Military Task Force, Lt.-Col. Gabriel Olorunyomi and the State Commandant of NSCDC, Christopher Oluchukwu.

The cumulative quantity of all petroleum products in the trucks is estimated at 198,000 litres.

Speaking to newsmen after the exercise, Oluchukwu said the trucks were impounded by soldiers on September 9 at a spot in Adogo village which had recently been besieged by vandals.

He also said six suspects arrested in connection with the incident had been handed over to his command, saying they would be charged to court.

Oluchukwu urged the public to inform relevant security agencies of suspicious activities in their areas so as to nip such crimes in the bud.
