A young man named Kelechi John Unadike (populalry known as KC), who reportedly works for Asherzs Salon on Opebi Road in Ikeja, may currently be on the run due to the new anti-gay law in Nigeria.
The talented hairdresser was once rumoured to be gay but these unconfirmed rumours were refuted by ladies who admired him.
However, on Tuesday January 21, 2014, KC was said to have left for the US but was detained at Atlanta Airport on his arrival. He was said to have declared asylum on grounds of his sexual preference and needed refuge from the anti-gay law recently passed by Nigerian lawmakers. An offence which attracts a punishment of 14 years in jail.
This claim may, however, not be completely true. This is how a blogger, Stella Dimoko Korkus reported it:
Kelechi John Unadike works of Asherzs Salon on Opebi road in ikeja…He is popularly known as KC and his touch and craft turns ladies into beautiful Princesses.
Before now, there have been rumour fingering his sexuality as gay but the ladies who admired him frowned at those whispering these things and life went on.
KC left for America on Tuesday January 21,2014.he was stopped at Atlanta airport and he declared asylum screaming he is gay and was running for his life because of the new Anti-gay law which would endanger his life and send him to jail for 14 years..
Immigration asked for a number to call and he gave them the number of one of his workers named Cynthia.
When immigration called Cynthia, she denied of behalf of KC that he was gay and rejected it in Jesus’ name …They thanked her and the communication line was cut off .
Nobody has heard anything from KC since then.
KC graduate from the University of Lagos and before now only travelled to South Africa and Maylaysia and has clientele all over Nigeria
Well, no one knows whether KC decided to cash in on the anti gay law and relocate easily to America or if he ran because he was scared of being arrested because of his status
….Whatever it is,the news is out there now and the American immigration have no choice now than to grant him asylum.
I don’t know if deporting him will be a good idea.
Hmmmm….I wish KC a happy stay in America if he is granted asylum…if not na heavy gobe oh.
