Leading proponent of the BringBackOurGirls movement and a former Minister of Education, has scoffed at the proposed bill by the Nigerian senate to gag the social media.
The bill, which was sponsored by Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah, seeks a 2-year jail sentence or a N2million fine for anyone guilty off using abusive words on social media against public figures, among other things.
Ever since it came to the fore, Nigerians across the divide have reacted angrily to it, but Ezekwesili simply mocked the senator’s contentious bill, stating on Twitter, that it’s an exercise in futility.
She accused the senators of failing in their jobs, yet seek to strike out social media, that empowers Nigerians.
I laughed in Wazobia as I read that Senate is enacting a Social Media Act. Let all those who know it is “IMPOSSICANT” join me to LoL, biko!

Thank God that Twitter & other SM platforms cannot be “Summoned” before your N130Billion Naira budget gulping 65 Committees. #ThankGod! — Oby Ezekwesili (@obyezeks) December 4, 2015
