Nigerians in Diaspora vow to put Senators on no-fly list over anti-social media bill

Reacting to the controversial anti-social media bill that’s being championed by the Nigerian Senate, a group known as Diaspora Nigeria Nationals Network (DNNN), has threatened to put Senators in support of the bill, on a no-fly list.

DNNN urged urged Senate President, Bukola Saraki, to immediately put an end to the bill, or suffer a situation where members of the Red Chamber, would not be able to fly out of Nigeria, to any location, whatsoever.

The group held an emergency meeting to this effect on Friday, where they expressed their readiness to begin a process of including all Senators who vote for the bill, and their families and relevant associates, on the international-no-fly list.

DNNN said the Senators “could constitute danger to the freedoms and lives of Nigerians including those beyond Nigeria’s borders whose views they find offensive.”

The group said it would also request meetings with the US Secretaries of State John Kerry and Homeland Security Jeh Johnson, to present their petition for the inclusion of Nigerian senators on the no-fly list.

The group said it became necessary to convene an emergency meeting due to the “injurious and terror-inducing impact the bill might have on Nigerian citizens, particularly Diaspora Nigerians.”
