Your social media account wasn’t hacked! 6 reasons why celebrities need to stop lying

by Tolu Omoyeni

Social media account hacking is a general technical issue that everyone who has a presence on social media has to face at some point in their lives.

However, ordinary people like you and I are hardly targeted by hackers because there really is nothing to see, or we have little or nothing to lose.

Celebrities are the ones who mostly get preyed upon by hackers; fans are aware of this and tend to show extra support for their favourite celebs who find themselves in this unfortunate situation. But celebrities need not take our love and support for granted by lying about hacked accounts for whatever reasons.

Here’s why you celebs need to stop:

  1. We know you’re not super humans, we know you’re flawed and it’s okay to gaffe. If you do make a public error, own up to it. Your integrity and reputation is on the line when you cover up a gaffe with lies. Fans are too smart to be played like that, we have eyes on you and we are watching all your moves. Some of us will never forgive a lie, so stopeeeet!
  1. If you know what it means to be a part of the fraction of celebrities in any society, then you will not lie about a social media hack. Many young people blindly look up to you. As a role model, if your personality is based on pointless lies then you are simply making a negative impact on your protégés. Think about the legacy you want to leave when you’re no longer popular – which is soon by the way – if you don’t stop lying.
  1. Don’t rouse unnecessary emotions in your followers. Don’t give us high blood pressure, some of us have it already, don’t add to it. If you want to commit suicide, do it quietly. Nigeria will not forget, for a long time, the TeeBillz Instagram drama and the hacking lies that followed. It hurts when we express sincere concern about your safety and privacy, then later find out you were just seeking cheap attention.
  1. You celebrities need to stop using hacking lies to cover up for your irresponsibility. You chat sexual stuff in your DMs, make sex tapes, get hacked, then start lying. Keep the filthy side of your lives away from your social media so that when you get high on alcohol or substances, you won’t have too much to give away with just the click of a button.
  1. If your brand is associated with lies, you will lose trust and followership. It’s pretty simple. You will lose endorsements if you have any and even the opportunity of getting signed on to new ones. Remember, the world will not forget your lies.
  1. Finally, all liars will go to hell. They’ve been telling us from kindergarten classes. Give up the lies.
