Sprite Triple Slam 2015 takes Nigerian universities by storm

‘Untameable excitement’, ‘mind blowing performances’ and ‘endless creativity’ are a few expressionsthat describe the Sprite Triple Slam (STS) activation since it resumed in August2015.

With students turning up in the thousands to show their raw basketball, music and dance skills, it has been a fusion of great slam dunks, unique punch lines and hot dance moves at each of the activation so far.

To date, the STS train has been to 5 campuses: UNIBEN, UNICAL, UI, ESUST and IMSU. Besides the unique show of skills and talent, a key highlight of the activation has been performances by some of Nigeria’s hottest artistes such as freestyle rap king Vector tha Viper, reggae dancehall sensation Patoranking (who, during his performance in UNICAL, gave out his pair of Versace boots to a student in the audience), and hip-hop budding star Tekno.

Speaking on the positive impact of STS during the UNIBEN activation, Otse John recounts how he was discovered through Sprite Triple Slam a few years ago, resulting in him now playing professionally for Dodan Warriors Basketball Club. The basket-baller said:

Recalling his experience in the ESUST activation, Odohchukwu Ebuka, a 300 level undergraduate of Anthropology who came tops in the music category said his first experience with the Sprite Triple Slam activation was in 2010 during his high school years. Enrolling in the activation which held in Abuja, Ebuka said:

“I participated in the Rap category. However, because I was just starting out, I did not make it to the top. After the competition, Iimproved on my skills, hoping that someday, I would participate again in another edition of the Sprite Triple Slam, and today I am happy I dusted everybody.”

Oritsefemi David, a 200-level undergraduate of Theatre and Media Studies who gave an impressive act with his 45seconds head spin, revealed that determination kept him going to the final round of the dance category. He hailed the Sprite brand for giving him the opportunity to express himself, and for choosing his campus, UNICAL, as one of this year’s activation locations.

Reaffirming Sprite’s commitment in ensuring its consumers express themselves and bring their true passions to life, Senior Brand Manager, Flavours, Coca-Cola Nigeria Limited, Toyin Nnodi, stated:

“Sprite respects Nigerian teens and youths and recognizes that they haveadopted the hip-hop culture and have great talent. Hip-hop and youth trends have been key components of the Sprite brand’s essence for many decades. Through the Sprite Triple Slam activation, Sprite remains committed to supporting basketball, music and dance, key passions of Nigerian teens.”

The next stop is the Rivers State University of Science and Technology, where we anticipate seeing RSUST students unleash their creativity, as we saw in the preceding activations!
