We will protect you – Buhari promises Shell and other oil companies, warns militants

President Muhammadu Buhari today told Niger Delta militants to step down their activities and work with his government to review the Amnesty Programme managed by his predecessors.

He said this when he received officials of the Royal Dutch Shell Group led by the Global Director (Upstream), Andrew Brown.

He assured Shell and other oil companies operating in the Niger Delta that his government is doing everything to protect strategic assets in the region, adding that he has directed the Chief of Naval Staff to strengthen the Joint Task Force of the military in the area to deal with the upsurge in militancy.

He also added that the operations of the JTF are being enhanced with support from United States and Europe .

“We have to be very serious with the situation in the Niger Delta because it threatens the national economy,”. he said. “I assure you that everything possible will be done to protect personnel and oil assets in the region.”
