Stop the rumour! “We still have Baba Suwe” – NDLEA spokesperson

The Head of Public Affairs, for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Mitchel Ofoyeju, has dispelled rumours that Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe has been released. In a phone interview with YNaija correspondent, Ofoyeju insisted that the investigation into the alleged drug possession case around Omidina isn’t concluded so he is still under the agency’s observation.

“I don’t know where these rumours come from; Baba Suwe is still with us and we cannot let him go until the investigation is concluded,’ the spokesperson said.

Ofoyeju refused to give detail on the present state of the investigation, but reassured that impressive progress has been made and will be made public in due time.

“I cannot disclose our findings to you yet but I assure you that we have made progress. Once investigations are concluded, we will make a comprehensive report available to you and the public,” he promised.

He also denied the reports that Omidina has been denied access to his lawyer and family. “I know for certain that his son and lawyer see him regularly,” Ofoyeju said.

Omidina was arrested on Wednesday October 12 at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos at about 10pm while he was about to board an Air France aircraft to Paris. The drug agency had claimed a scan showed he had substances suspected to be outlawed drugs concealed in his stomach.
