Stronger than bamboo: 4 things we learnt about singer, Yemi Alade’s love

by SK Johnson

Bamboo

Does anyone of you know who Yemi Alade is? Yes? Cool. Well, for any who don’t, she is, according to her Twitter handle, at least, “an award winning, recording & performing diva!” (Yes, with the exclamation mark.)

Now, setting aside the fact that I’m hard pressed to think of any award she’s actually won (which, to be honest, is due more to my own ignorance and has nothing at all to do with any possibility of her not winning) and focusing on the bigger picture here (I don’t mean that picture of her up there locked in embrace with what appears to be a half-naked man; though you’re allowed to focus on that too), this piece is about something in particular that’s managed to stand out from the songstress’s music; the versatility of her love.

Her new video is in support of her song, Bamboo, in which she sings about a number of different things her love happens to be; different from things she already mentioned her song was in other songs. Amazing, really.

But anyway, check out the run through of what Yemi Alade’s love is.

1. A wire.

It might be hard to believe that love can double as a wire, seeing as a wire is, after all, a thin strand of metal, but Yemi Alade clearly states, “this love na wire.”

2. Stronger than bamboo

How is it, you ask, that a wire can be stronger than Bamboo? Well Yemi Alade clearly doesn’t give a damn about that as she declares to us that her love “strong pass bamboo.” Amazing.

3. Action.

“This love na action o!”  Ms. Alade confidently declares on her song, Ghen Ghen Love. Amazing, again.

4. Sweeter than Banku

For any who may not know, “Banku” is a Ghanaian dish made from fermented corn/cassava dough, mixed with water and made into a smooth, white paste. Whether or not it is actually “sweet” might be up for debate, but all that matters now is Yemi Alade’s love is sweet pass banku”.
