Style Icons! Omowunmi Akinnifesi & Mai Atafo glitter at Allure Awards

by Eric Nwanso

Just by walking in, one could see that the Allure Style Icons Award Ceremony,  held on Sunday, 17th April, was set to be a glamorous event. As the lift rode off to the floor of the Atlantic Beach Centre, Victoria Island, guests were welcomed by beautifully clad greeters, and a waiter stood nearby, holding a tray laden with a variety of wines and champagne.

The interior of the event hall did not disappoint. Its richly decorated mix of Arabian, Western and African themes was reminiscent of a king’s palace. The ceremony was hosted by Gloria Anozie Young, who did an excellent job, and entertainment was provided by BJ, a masterful saxophonist. Clothing designers like Bevista showcased their latest collections, while Sephas jewelry and Ole’s creation showed the latest in jewelry designs.

For this writer, the highlight of the event was “My take on style” a speech by style icon Nike Oshinowo-Soleye who left guests with the parting words “style is not about being self obsessed and forgetting about what happens in our environment (such as the natural disaster in Japan). Stylish people are not empty”. I also cheered as style awards were presented to Mai Atafo (Most Stylish Male) and beauty queen Omowunmi Akinnifesi (Most Stylish Female). It was totally an event worth waiting and getting drenched in the rain for!
