The 2011 American Music Awards (AMA) took place on 20 November at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles.

The event began right from the red carpet, as the stars walked the length and posed for the cameras. Our style jury took notes on those who graced the carpet and those who made it a crime scene. Here’s the verdict!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Who would have thought Nikki Minaj will be the first star to step out in Oscar de la Renta’s spring 2012 collection? Though she didn’t have the best look of the night, in the emerald gown with lacy bodice, we actually loved the Alexander McQueen Amour wedge. And only the heavens know what she went through – walking in those heels that night.

Selena Gomez is all grown up now, you understand? And she can show as much skin as she wants. The Giorgio Armani satin gown with plunging neckline and low cut-open back made her the talk of the night.

Score: 70%

Katy Perry is obviously out to have fun but might she have over done it? Unless she was rooting to take the Red Carpet Stunt Star crown from the charming Lady Gaga! What do you think of her Vivienne Westwood gown, red hair and blue shoes?

Score: 30%

Taylor Swift won for ‘Artist of the Year’ in a strapless Reem Acra dress that sparkled all the way down. She has always dressed appropriately – she’s not country princess for nothing.

Score: 80%

Jennifer Hudson in a mini dress by Jenny Packham. Besides the shimmer and glitter that came with the dress, the drape detailing across the chest is what will make this froc a memorable piece. And just as we’re loving those Christian Louboutin Daffodile Strass pumps, we still can’t get over her magical weight transformation – goodness!

Score: 50%

Modern Family’s Sarah Hayland in a stone and sequined detailed dress by Amen. Can we get a Halleluyah in da house? We think Sarah is rocking this dress all the way, and she completes her look with a Brian Atwooh peep toe shoes.

Score 45% 

Heidi Klum in a silver laser cut-out dress from British designer, Giles Deacon’s spring 2012 collection. We’re not sure we like the smokey eye and the dirty blonde look.  Plus we can see her underwear – and we don’t like to see mums flashing underwear:(. In any case, we’ve seen Heidi look better.

Score: 45% 

Jenny McCarthy in Victoria Beckham spring 2011. The hair in a side sweep is adorable and the colour of the dress totally complements her skin tone. We don’t care for the black boots though – makes it obvious she’s short now, doesn’t it.

Score: 40%

This is jungle fashion, and we mean that both literally – Mary J. Blige wears an animal print, one shoulder number by Roberto Cavalli – and pejoratively; like seriously? Maybe this would look better on someone else. On Mary, it’s just wrong. It’s like she couldn’t be bothered to dress up for the award, so she raided Tarzan’s wardrobe.
