Sultan of Sokoto calls Muslim holiday for October 26

The Sultan of Sokoto, who is seen as spiritual leader of Nigerian Muslims yesterday directed the faithful to celebrate Eid-al-Kabir on Friday, October 26.

According to His Eminence, Alhaji Sa’ad Muhammad Abubakar, this is “based on report received from the various committees on Moon sighting across the country.”

A statement signed by Prof. Sambo Wali Junaidu, Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs Sultanate Council, Sokoto, noted that the Sultan confirmed the birth of the new moon from Wednesday October 17, 2012.

“The Sultanate council Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs at its meeting on Tuesday October 16 , 2012 reviewed reports from various Moon sighting Committees across the country, duly confirming the birth of New Moon of Zulhijja 1433 AH with effect from Wednesday, Octoberm 17, 2012 which is the 1st day of the Zulhajja, 1433. A. H,” the statement said.

“Friday October 26 is the tenth day of Zulhajja 1433 A.H which is the Eid-al-Kabir day.”
