Why another APC lawmaker rejected Dogara’s appointment

Another All Progressives Congress lawmaker has rejected the committee appointment of Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara.

Sunday Adepoju, resigned on Thursday, as the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Special Duties.

Garba Dhatti-Muhammad, had set the precedence a couple of days ago, by announcing his resignation on the floor of the House.

Adepoju attempted to follow suit, but he was prevented from resigning on the floor of the House by Deputy Speaker, Yusuff Lasun, who stood in for Dogara.

Lasun informed him that based on the the provisions of the rules, he should have registered his protest immediately the Speaker made the announcement last week.

Adepoju would however, announce his resignation after the session, while speaking to journalists.

The lawmaker said he decided to resign because the APC was deprived of the leadership of key and sensitive committees.

“Yes, I have tendered my resignation because I did not believe that the APC was fairly treated by the speaker.

“The committees on powers, aviation, works, petroleum and others are with the PDP. The speaker is intelligent enough to know the best way to handle this issue.”
