Supreme Court to hear Sheriff’s application against Makarfi’s appeal May 4

by Dolapo Adelana

The Supreme Court on Thursday agreed to hear applications filed by both factions of the Peoples Democratic Party led by the court-backed National Chairman of the party, Ali Modu Sheriff; and the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee sacked by the Court of Appeal, Ahmed Makarfi.

Sheriff is seeking an order of the apex court to stop the appeal filed in the name of the party by the Makarfi-led faction of the party.

The Justice Tanko Muhammad-led five-man panel of the apex court on Thursday granted the Makarfi group’s prayer for an abridgment of time within which the respondents to the appeal must respond and file their briefs and also gave the Sheriff group May 4 to argue its motion seeking to strike out the appeal.
