South Africans protest TB Joshua’s planned visit as Zimbabwean family accuses him of telling lies

Catherine Ndlovu, a 40-year-old woman from Bulawayo, the second largest city in Zimbabwe, paid thousands of dollars to visit Nigeria to seek divine intervention for ailing daughter, but her mission was futile, as she died in the 12 September collapse of the hotel building in T.B. Joshua’s Synagogue Chrch of all Nations.

Following the building collapse, the family of Ndlovu said they called the church daily to confirm if she was dead or alive, but the church repeatedly lied to them that she was unscathed and would be returning home.

Catherine’s brother, Jabulani, while speaking to Zimbabwean Chronicle, said, “We called them every day, asking where my sister was and they said she had boarded a plane back to South Africa and would be back on Sunday last week.”

“We became suspicious when other Zimbabweans who had travelled to Nigeria came back via South Africa and she wasn’t part of the group. It became clear they had been lying to us and withholding information from us all along. They just put up a wall of lies and kept telling us she was safe. It would be only several days later that they confirmed our worst fears,” he added.

Besides Catherine, another Zimbabwean, Greenwich Ndanga, also died in the disaster.

Jabulani also said getting the late Catherine’s body has so far proved to be an herculean task, as T.B. Joshua’s aides have asked them to provide a DNA sample for identification.

He added, “We don’t even know if that is true, and our only hope now is that our government can get to the bottom of this, Who knows how man other Zimbabweans have been kept in the dark about their relatives’ fate?”

Catherine left behind two children, a 19-year-old daughter and 9-year-old son.

South Africans protest T.B Joshua’s planned visit

On its part, the South African government has stated that 84 of its citizens lost their lives in the tragedy which has reportedly killed over 100 people.

Meanwhile, the youth wing of South Africa’s ruling party, African National Congess, ANC, has released a statement demanding that T.B joshua be barred from entering the country.

The statement was a response to Joshua’s announcement that he would be travelling to South Africa once every month to minister.

ANC Youth league spokesperson, Bandile Masuku, said in the statement, “T.B. Joshua should not be allowed to come to South Africa until we know what happeend to our fellow countrymen at his church.”

“We will engage the department of international relations and cooperation to make sure they do not issue him a South African visa.”
