Endowed Ghanaian actress, Joselyn Dumas is in love with Genevieve Nnaji

by Damilola Jagun

Ghanaian actress and talk-show host, Joselyn Dumas says she ‘absolutely loves’ her Nigerian colleague, Genevieve Nnaji.

In a recent interview, the endowed actress, who is the face of Range Rover E-vogue in her country, gushed about her delight to be on the same platform as Nnaji, who is the ambassador for the brand in Nigeria.

Dumas said she was honoured to have been contacted to be the face of the vehicle in Ghana, because of the association of Nigeria’s Genevieve Nnaji and Britain’s Victoria Beckham with Range Rover.

She expressed her adoration for the Nollywood icon, saying she looks up to her and is proud to be in the same league with her.

“Do you know how honoured I am? I mean Genevieve is Genevieve, believe me, my Goodness! I mean she is one person that I look up to. I absolutely love what she has done with her brand. She knows when to have fun, she knows when to be serious, and I absolutely love her. I think that is exactly what showbiz should be all about. Genevieve is a household name in Nigeria; so I feel proud and honoured to be in the same league with her. Have you forgotten that Victoria Beckham the fashionista too is a global face of the Range Rover E-Vogue brand?”

Speaking further, Dumas she admires Genevieve and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde’s hard work, which has seen them rise to the pinnacle of their careers.

“I mean these are sexy, hard working women who are striving for nothing but the best. So, to be in line with these people, I give glory to God. So, Genevieve has worked hard; she is one person that if I am asked to admire someone in Africa, I will say Genevieve. She and Omotola Jalade, I admire their presence. They epitomize success, class, hard work; everything that is great and good. They tell you to work hard and you will succeed with anything that you wanted and to me it is a great honour to share success lane with such women.”

“@Realomosexy has depth” | “@GenevieveNnaji1 has artistic shortcomings” – @charlesnovia fans the flame of old rivalry

by Kolapo Olapoju

Nollywood icons, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde and Genevieve Nnaji are unarguably the leading ladies of the Nigerian film industry, and many believe the pair are involved in a professional rivalry.

Although, there has been no indications from either of the actresses to suggest they might have a rivalry, many believe the pair are not exactly best of friends.

Movie director, Charles Novia, has inadvertently fanned the flame of their ‘supposed rivalry’, with a recent post on his Facebook page, where he congratulated the Nollywood recipients of the Nigerian National Awards.

Kenneth Nnebue, Joke Silva and Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde were given national honours by the President, and Novia sought to make comparisons between Omotola and Genevieve’s acting skills.

On Omotola, he wrote, “Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde is known to many. Her acting prowess is arguably in a class by itself and her being nominated as one of the world’s 100 most influential persons by TIME magazine a couple of years back must have paved the way for her present national recognition by the Federal Government. Frankly speaking, I personally think she has more depth in acting than her ‘rival’ Genevieve Nnaji. I have worked with both of them in the past and also studied their acting styles. Omotola has the gift of role immersion. She gives everything into her characters. There is an organic style of interpretation she is gifted with. Very few actors have that. She Is not a Method Actor, mind you but she has delivered roles which many method actors would give her a standing ovation for.”

Meanwhile, Genevieve did not get such glowing comments as her rival-actress. Novia wrote, “Genevieve, on the other hand, is a fantastic actress and a trend – setting one too. But she lacks the intrinsic ability to evolve artistically beyond her present heights in her career. That is my opinion. There is an underlying stereotype in her interpretation of her roles in many of her movies; a linear aloofness and veiled disdain at the thought of being pushed further down the exploratory lane. Of course she has an uncanny screen presence which generally veils her artistic shortcomings when it comes to acting and between her and her rivals, she comes tops on the fan base list. However, with an attitude which seems to say she has nothing more to prove, even the fans would become restless if new artistic exploits are not offered from her to which they can beat their chests.”

Novia, however, added a caveat to his post, saying it was not an attempt to rekindle old rivalries between the actresses.

“And for fans of both actresses, this is a professional review of their acting abilities and not an attempt to rekindle old rivalries. Somehow, this post on the National Honours dove tailed into their artistry. All well and good.”

Chude Jideonwo

Award winning actress, @RealOmoSexy hosts @Chude on #OsexyFriday

by Isi Esene

Nollywood actress, Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde today hosted Chude Jideonwo, the author of the critically acclaimed book, ‘Are We The Turning Point Generation?’ on this month’s edition of #OsexyFriday.

#OsexyFriday is an interview format Twitter conversation which seeks to distill the opinions of young, emerging thought leaders.

The conversation which lasted two hours had Jideonwo speaking about the main thrust of the book which is meant to raise the level of discussion on Nigeria’s future and the imperatives of achieving the needed development.

When asked about the role of youth in changing Nigeria for the better, Jideonwo, the co-founder of The Future Awards Africa & Summit (TFAAS), said contrary to widely held belief, there is nothing about youth that makes them changemakers.

“It is deception, really, to think we will change Nigeria simply because we are young. That’s lazy. The truth is that there is nothing about youth that makes us immediately changemakers,” he said.

While responding to a question on what is needed for change, Jideonwo said the critical element that will change Nigeria for the better is competent leadership.

He said, “It is a network of leaders with competence, character and empowered citizens who hold them to account that will change Nigeria.

“That’s why the work people like Enough is Enough Nigeria is doing is so important. We have to let our leaders know that we have the power to choose and refuse… and that we will exercise it. Our leaders must constantly live in fear that if they don’t do their jobs, we will not let them be in any way,” he said.

Jideonwo disclosed the imminent launch of the website, www.howcanigetinvolved.com, a platform established to aid individuals in getting information on organizations working for change in Nigeria.

Jalade-Ekeinde rounded-off the engaging conversation by urging the press to be an integral part of the change we seek. She thanked Jideonwo for chairing the September edition of #OSexyFriday conversation.

Chude Jideonwo will, on Saturday at 5pm, host a book reading at the Terra Kulture, Tiamiyu Savage, Victoria Island, Lagos. The event which will be moderated by multi-talented music video director, Kemi Adetiba, is in continuation of the ‘Are We The Turning Point Generation?’ book tour which has been hosted in many major cities around the world including Abuja, New York, London, Paris, Johannesburg and more.

Nollywood’s Omoni Oboli talks about ‘beef’ with Genevieve Nnaji

by Isi Esene

Actress, Omoni Oboli is saying there’s certainly no animosity between her and delectable Nollywood star, Genevieve Nnaji.

The producer of ‘Being Mrs Elliot’ spoke to iCampus Magazine saying she can only hazard a guess as to how the rumoured ‘beef’ developed and assumed a life of its own.

“I can’t place my fingers on when the supposed ‘beef’ started but one thing I know is that, there is no problem between Genevieve and I,” she said. “We did not have any issue or problem whatsoever. We are not enemies, neither are we friends. We are colleagues, a senior one at that, we greet each other when we see; it is not like we visit each other at home.”

The movie director and producer explained further saying: “I acted a movie , Anchor Baby, the director (Lonzo Nzekwe) of the movie granted an interview and said Omoni Oboli is the best actress in Nigeria. Some bloggers lashed on it and said Omoni Oboli is better than Genevieve and Omotola.

“The next thing was that people started writing about a supposed ‘beef’ with her. I cannot get the reason they didn’t write about beef with Omotola. In my opinion, someone somewhere was just being mischievous. I have absolutely no problem with her, and I believe she has no problem with me.”

People used to look down on me: Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde says it wasn’t always Eldorado (READ)

by Azubuike Azikiwe

Its hard to find anyone who’d look down on her at this stage of her career!

Apparently, it wasn’t always ‘accolades and adulation’, for Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde, one of Nigeria’s most influential actors. There were those times when she didn’t get her due respect.

In an interview with ‘The Sun’, the actress and mother of 4 speaks on some of the encumbrances she had to surmount on her climb to the apex of Nollywood.

“Fame has denied me a lot. I can’t stop on the way and buy anything I want. I’m like, ‘hey, give it to me’ and they will rush over, give it to me and I will zoom off. Every celebrity has this challenge. It depends on who you are and how you want to handle it. I would like to go to the market and buy whatever I want but I can’t. And I can’t go around with bodyguards.”

“At a stage, people looked down on me. They tried to deny me my credit and make me feel insecure. But you know you deserve what you get as long as you have worked hard enough. So, no matter what you are going through, you’re not the only person facing tragedy in life; it happens to everyone.”

The iconic and talented actress also said she hates watching her own flicks, owing to the fact that she is extremely critical of her acting.

She said, “I hardly watch my own movies. I really can’t; it will kill me. I can’t watch my movies with people, especially my husband because I get on his nerves all the time. We’d be watching this movie and before you know it, I’d be chattering and he would be like ‘hey, can you just shut up and let us watch the movie!’ You know, I would keep saying to myself, ‘oh my God! I would have turned that way; I shouldn’t have said it that way. Oh my God why should I keep repeating that? Why should I keep blinking my eyes?”
