The security details of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, have been withdrawn by the Nigerian Police Force.

The withdrawal of Tambuwal’s security was announced on the Police website by the Police Force Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Ojukwu, citing the Speaker’s defection as the sole factor behind the move.

The statement read in part, “In view of the recent defection by the Right Honourable Aminu Waziri Tanbuwal, CFR, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, from the People Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC), and having regard to the clear provision of Section 68 (1) (g) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended, the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has redeployed its personnel attached to his office.”

On Tuesday, 28 October, Tambuwal announced his decision to leave the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, for the major opposition party during the house plenary session.

24 hours later, on Wednesday,  29 October, he was formally presented as a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, during the party’s extraordinary national convention held in Abuja.

  1. He should face the consequence of his action as stipulated by the 1999 constitution sec.68.1g. Any one to whom i much is given much is also required. That others have committed the same offence without any consequence is no reason for him to also do so. As the no.4 citizen of the country,he should defend and respect the constitution
