Sacked Taraba governor says tribunal judgment was ‘accidental’

The sacked Governor of Taraba state, Dairus Ishaku, says the ruling of the State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, is an anomaly.

The tribunal had removed Ishaku, and ordered that the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Aisha Al-Hassan, be inaugurated as the governor.

The tribunal had based its decision on the fact that Ishaku’s party, the Peoples Democratic Party, failed to conduct an acceptable primary election.

Ishaku, however says the judgment was an accidental discharge, while calling on President Muhammadu Buhari, to probe tribunal judges.

The embattled governor, spoke for the first time, on Tuesday, at the Peoples Democratic Party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Ishaku said he has immense confidence in the superior courts to overturn the judgement of the state election tribunal.

He said, “I am not shaking; God is on His throne. I will defend the mandate Taraba people gave to me. I have confidence in the judiciary but there is corruption in the judiciary just like in every profession, there are bad eggs.

“There are good drivers and there are bad drivers. It is unfortunate that this driver (of the tribunal) was a bad driver. That judgment was an accidental discharge.”
