The government of Taraba State has issued an official statement condemning the recent attack on the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Haruna Tsokwa.

Tsokwa’s convoy  was attacked by unidentified gunmen along Akwanga-Keffi Road in Nasarawa State on Wednesday.

This was contained in a statement reportedly issued in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital, on Thursday by the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Danbaba Suntai, Alhaji Hassan Mijinyawa.

The statement described the attack as shocking and called on security agencies to arrest those behind the act.
“Taraba today needs peace, security and political accommodation,” the statement said.

The speaker’s convoy came under attack while he was on his way to Abuja from Obudu in Cross River State.

Members of the Taraba House of Assembly were in Obudu for a one-week retreat.

The speaker’s pilot car was reportedly riddled with bullets, leaving one of his security personnel critically injured.
