In a pathetic case of child-rape, a 27-year-old man has reportedly defiled an 11-year-old girl, who has the ‘Down Syndrome’ disease.
The man, Austin Okonkwo, has been remanded in prison custody by an Evboriaria Chief Magistrate’s Court sitting in Ikpoba-Okha, Edo State, for the dastardly act.
According to the police prosecutor, Aigbedion Obakpolor, the accused committed the offence on November 29.
A relative of the victim, revealed that the Okonkwo took the girl to his room where he proceeded to rape her. The relative stated that the girl cried of pains in her private part, which led to the arrest of the accused.
The presiding judge, Chief Magistrate Frank Idiake, refused bail application for the accused, saying that rape cases were on the increase around the country.
The accused, would however, plead not guilty to the one-count charge preferred against him.
The case has been adjourned to January 21, 2015 for continuation of trial.
