Terrible: Nasarawa confirms outbreak of cholera, 18 patients admitted

The Nasarawa State Government on Thursday confirmed the outbreak of cholera in the Akwanga local government area of the state, saying that it is using all necessary measures to contain the spread of the disease.

This development was made known by the the state Commissioner for Health, Emmanuel Akabe, who said only one death  has been recorded while 18 others hospitalized as a result of the cholera breakout.

According to him, other patients are still being tested to know if the symptoms they have are actually those of cholera.

“Though all the 18 patients that are presently on admission were vomiting and as well passing diarrhoea, this we are investigating,” he said.

The commissioner explained that Gov. Tanko Al-makura had released some funds to purchase drugs for the
treatment of the patients on admission.

Mr. Akabe said 20 testing kits for cholera were bought and distributed by the government.

He also said government would do everything humanly possible to control the spread of the disease.

The commissioner said more health personnel had been deployed to Akwanga General Hospital for proper and adequate treatment of
the affected patient.
