The Niger State Police Command has apprehended three women identified as Rehab Stella Abuchalem, Madam Stella and Favour Anayo, in Mokwa area of the state for allegedly buying and selling a new born baby.

It was gathered that Abuchalem confessed to the police that one of her sisters, Madam Stella, from Imo State allegedly bought the baby after paying a pregnant woman, Anayo, from Lagos, to deliver the baby for her.

There are now speculations that the 3 women might be members of a ‘baby factory’ syndicate in the state.

Leadership report:

According to a police source, Stella confessed that Favour Anayo who was pregnant and a student of Okota Secondary School, Lagos State, was paid and  brought to Mokwa until she delivered the baby on the December 26, 2013 for her.

It was learnt that the development has raised the fear that the three women might be members of a syndicate operating a baby factory in the state.

Niger State Police command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Richard Adamu Oguche confirmed that the three women were in custody.

He stated that the case had since been transferred to the state Police headquarters for further investigations to ascertain whether there was syndicate behind it.
