Terrible: Woman, boyfriend arrested for beating one-year-old child to death with a belt (PICTURED)

Lakeshia Baker (l.) and Michael Scott (r.) are accused of killing her one-year-old son, Bryeon Hunter, before faking his abduction.

A Chicago mom beat her baby son to death with a belt and then sparked a massive search and rescue operation by claiming he’d been kidnapped, police said.

Lakeshia Baker, 22, is accused – alongside her 21-year-old boyfriend Michael Scott – of killing tiny Bryeon Hunter at their suburban Maywood home on Monday.

Cops claims the one-year-old, whose body has not been found, was gagged as the pair hit him with the belt and plastic hangers.

They then left him on the bathroom floor, until the following day, to die.

Realizing what they’d done, they allegedly decided to bundle the baby’s body into a backpack and dump it in the Des Plaines river.

Then, as a cover-up, they reportedly told cops the child had been abducted by three Hispanic men as the pair walked down an alleyway.

Bryeon Hunter, 1, was killed on April 16, 2013.

Maywood Police Department

Bryeon Hunter, 1, was killed on April 16, 2013.

It sparked a huge search operation, with police hunting for the baby across the city.

Baker even picked three “suspects” out in a police mug book and appeared in news reports asking for her baby to be returned.

But cops didn’t believe her story, Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez told CBS Chicago.

She later admitted it was a ruse, saying they themselves had killed the baby, reports the station.

Prosecutors say each of the defendants accuse the other of dumping the body in the river.

Baker is being held without bond whilst Scott is being held on $750,000 bail.
