The number of Boko Haram insurgents in the country has been further reduced as the Nigerian Army yesterday said that it had taken down nine suspected members of the sect in Buni Yadi, Yobe State, during a shootout which ensued on Wednesday.
Spokesperson for the 3 Division of the Army, Eli Lazarus, released the statement which detailed events surrounding the gun battle and subsequent developments. The report said that men of the army engaged the suspected terrorists in a battle at about 9.30 p.m. on Wednesday when the latter launched an attack in Buni Yadi, headquarters of Gujba Local Government Area of the state.
Lazarus also reportedly said that parts of the local government headquarters were torched by the terrorists during the attack including two buildings in the military camp.
Mr. Lazarus, while enjoining residents to remain calm, said the battalion has since reinforced the areas to prevent any such attacks.
He said the battalion and other security agencies will continue to synergize efforts in a bid to rid the state of terrorist activities through collaboration between security agencies and residents of the state.
He called on resident to continue to give timely and credible information to agencies to support the fight against terrorism.
