TFAA 2014: Derenle was the selfie king for the night and more: Top 10 moments and goofs at the show

The Future Awards has come and gone and with it came all the glitz and glamour and a beautiful array of guests that arrived in their best attires for the occasion. As opposed to the norm, this year’s edition was an exclusive evening of inspiration and nominees who had been carefully selected by the committee were awarded.

But what makes an event interesting is the moment and this one was packed with poignant ones, inspiring moments as not-so-cool moments.

1. Fashion vs. Football- LDA’s face-off with Amokachi

This is nothing short of epic. The news had been making rounds anyway about the looming competition and battle that is between fashion and football but an actual live face off? it was a great moment to see. Lanre da Silva stood her ground to support her passion adding the fact that her husband who is a football fan, was on her side, Amokachi was on the counter attack saying the world thrives for football. it was one debate that couldn’t have been missed.

2. The National Anthem rendition

I was having an argument with a fellow guest at the show when the duo of Waje and OC went off with the national anthem to open the ceremony and even though i knew i should have concentrated at being patriotic even if for that moment, i couldn’t get my mind off who was better between both. it felt like a heavenly assembly when they both duet. they should really look into doing songs together and maybe OC should further launch his musical career.

3. Spaceship boi’s performance

There is something about spaceshipboi that i just cant place but if i were to describe is sheer raw and genuine talent. He got atop the stage and activated his background beat for the song he would perform and i thought that was just amazing.

4. Asa’s Performance

if this isn’t on the list then the list wouldn’t be complete. The very fact that she was slated to perform at the show was exciting enough. Her actual performance brought life into the crowd. Asa always makes an event something to look forward to with her performances. Although she did just two songs, it is all a loyal fan could have asked for asides having her atop the stage.

5. Yemi Alade’s performance-

Yemi Alade made this list narrowly and it surprised me as well. I have never witnessed Yemi perform live up until last night and i was ready for a ‘here-we-go-again’ moment but when she took the mic and didnt ask the DJ to play track one i was taken aback. Yes she did perform live and it was up to par, surprisingly. Will be looking forward to more of her performances to know if it is the real deal.

Goofs.

 6. Falz’s misappearance

When Singer Falz took to the stage we were eager to dance to his hit songs but alas, he was only there to present the next act. What a way to kill joy. forewarning next time please.

7. Omotola Jalaide-Ekeinde’s revelation-

Wow oh wow! who would have thought? Omotola took the podium to give her speech and guess what she revealed to the audience- her name.

8. Power outage.

It was one of those expectancies you either look forward to at an event or not bother flinching when it happens. It was restored immediately so the night was saved.

9. Timi’s Performance

The talented soul singer had a lot to give but unfortunately did it to an almost empty crowd. But i loved that he still delivered with all he’s got not flinching, not wavering one bit.

10. Selfie King Derenle-

Derenle just couldnt get enough of taking pictures last night. he was caught not just on the red carpet but every other place taking selfies with whoever he could lay his hands on. Pretty distracting, it was i must add.

Bonus

My favourite [cliche] moment was when host, Iyanya, made a comment about his first encounter with the awards and him being just a spectator but now he is a host at the show. I thought it was humbling.
