Mercy Johnson Washington

Mercy Johnson got her acting break in the 2003 Kenneth Nnebue film, The Maid, in which she played – no prizes for guessing – a maid, albeit one possessed by spirits or demons or something of the sort. Sine then she has gone on to star in over 60 movies, carting several awards along the way, including the Actor of The Year award at the 2011 edition of The Future Awards Africa.

A native of Okene in Kogi state, Mercy Johnson was born in Lagos in August 1984. She is fourth of seven children. She got her start in the movie industry during the period between leaving secondary school and trying to get into university, citing Genevieve Nnaji’s performance in 2002’s Sharon Stone as her major motivation for seeking a place in the industry.

In August 2011, Mercy Johnson got married, and in December 2012, gave birth to her first child; a girl, Purity.

Her most recent acting credits include 2012’s Shakira and Dumebi The Dirty Girl, for which she was awarded the 2013 Africa Magic Viewers Choice Award for Best Actress.
