The hide and seek over Stephen Keshi’s new contract continues

by Mark Bassey

First we heard that Stephen Keshi was set to continue as coach of the Super Eagles. From the mouth of two witnesses of course – in which a matter is established.

“We are going to be having a meeting of the technical committee on Tuesday on February 10 and many far reaching decisions will be taken regarding the future of the country’s football,” Alhaji Ahmed Yusuf Fresh, the vice chairman of the NFF’s Technical and Development Committee, said last week.

“We will talk about the contract renewal of Stephen Keshi and that of his assistants among other things.”

Yesterday, Felix Anyasi-Agwu, the chairman of the NFF technical committee added: “We deliberated on Keshi’s contract renewal and have made our recommendations to the NFF board.”

However, the man at the centre of it all, has now claimed he does not know what they are talking about.

“Nobody has called me about any meeting or anything about a contract,” Keshi was quoted by SportingLife.

“I am not aware of anything of the sort. And no one has talked to me about a renewal of contract.

“As of now, no one has called me. Maybe later or tomorrow but for now, none has called me for any contract talks.”

Someone is definitely still playing games with Nigeria’s football (administration). And we wonder when we will put an end to all these uncertainty and move in the right direction.
