Not too long ago, I gave the Nigerian Criminal Code a proper look. I think I was looking up ways to legally harm the YNaija Tech guy.

Anyway, as I scrolled through, I stumbled into “Chapter 21: Offenses Against Morality”. A section so ridiculous that you have to question everyone who sat down author it.

218.         Any person who has unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of thirteen years is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for life, with or without caning.

                Any person who attempts to have unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl under the age of thirteen years -is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years, with or without caning.

Fair enough, pedophilia is bad. But what happens to girls over 13, but not yet adults?

221.         Any person who-

(1)            has or attempts to have unlawful carnal knowledge of a girl being of or above thirteen years and under sixteen years of age…

                  is guilty of a misdemeanor, and is liable to imprisonment for two years, with or without caning.

So molesting 14-year-olds is bad, but not has bad molesting 12 year-olds? I wonder if the odds of caning are higher in this instance.

214.         Any person who-

(1)           has carnal knowledge of any person against the order of nature; or

(2)           has carnal knowledge of an animal; or

(3)           permits a male person to have carnal knowledge of him or her against the order of nature;

is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for fourteen years.

Also not as bad as having anal sex, with an animal, or letting someone have the anal sex with you. And that question in your head, what else could “against the order of nature” mean?

215.         Any person who attempts to commit any of the offences defined in the last preceding section is guilty of a felony, and is liable to imprisonment for seven years.

Attempted rape of a 14-year-old = 2 years
Attempted anal sex = 7 years.
