Behold, the picture that confirms the richest fight in boxing history

Boxing fans can officially begin the countdown to the richest fight in history.

On Friday night, Floyd Mayweather confirmed the bout was on, after he posted a signed copy of his contract with Manny Pacquiao on social media.

The $250million (£160m) blockbuster is expected to take place on May 2. Mayweather is guaranteed a minimum $150m (£96m) and Pacquiao will bank at least $100m (£64m).

Mayweather wrote on Shots: “What the world has been waiting for has arrived. Mayweather vs. Pacquiao on May 2, 2015, is a done deal. I promised the fans we would get this done, and we did. We will make history on May 2nd. Don’t miss it! This is the signed contract from both fighters.”

It promises to be an interesting fight, as Mayweather is the WBA and WBC welterweight world champion and undefeated in all of his 47 fights.

Pacquiao, who is the WBO champion who has been defeated five times in 64 fights, but he was confident ahead of the clash.

He said: “I am very happy that Floyd Mayweather and I can give the fans the fight they have wanted for so many years.

“They have waited long enough and they deserve it. It is an honour to be part of this historic event. I dedicate this fight to all the fans who willed this fight to happen and, as always, to bring glory to the Philippines and my fellow Filipinos around the world.”
