There’s a media impostor calling itself Bello Naija. Like, what the hell?

What won’t we see on this Nigerian internet!? You guys, anyone heard of Bello Naija because I have no words for this kind of tomfoolery. Turns out that this media outlet has been around for a while, with a presence on social media and made its debut Instagram post from Abuja in April.

As at last count, there’s a total of 61 posts deposited on its Instagram, from pictures to videos and holiday greetings. Aside the name being overwhelmingly obvious, and seemingly dodgy, its brand logo is quite similar to the other media outlet whose name must not be named, save for the strip of green incorporated into the design.

“Balancing the narrative,” reads the motto slapped on its Twitter account and I’m tempted to ask: Which balance? So invested in traffic and capitalising on the misspelling tendencies of Nigerians, and potential readers alike, that the brand was glaringly crafted after the one, you know, that must not be named.

Wait, wait. it gets better. Check out this headline:

I LAUGHED OUT LOUD when writing this, then stopped myself so as not to be insensitive. May God rest the souls of the dead, but this is just in poor taste coming from Bello Naija. Fall off Ojuoelegba Bridge? Let me just walk away.
